From my point of view, magic short bow is slightly better because of its speed. Although the cbow hits harder and more often (and has the built in ability to lower range def to be even more so), the msb makes up for it by shooting 1.5 times faster. So for example, I hit 16's with msb, and 22-23 with cbow, but msb: 16*1.5 = 24.

They do massive damage, couple it with a GWW attack and you have a 40d4 bonus damage. For melee builds these are a lifesaver (no need to waste points into magic for ranged attacks). My advice is, pick a crossbow that you like in the early-mid game, then upgrade it all the way to +10. Yes, its worth it because you'll be using it the whole game.

First, a player must cut an unstrung elder shortbow (u) from elder logs, granting 101.2 Fletching experience. Then, the player must string the unstrung elder shortbow with a bowstring, granting 101.2 experience. Elder shortbows can shoot arrows up to dragon. Or a rogue can just use a Swiftshot (AV) crossbow, which is functionally almost identical to a shortbow. It eats up your "weapon enchantment slot", but doesn't cost the character any feats. Flavor-wise you could always just describe it as a magic shortbow anyway.

It requires a Ranged level of 64 to wield, and can fire bolts up to and including dragon bolts. It has an attack range of 7 increased to 9 with longrange. Dragon crossbows can be made through the Fletching skill at level 78; a player must first cut a magic stock for the crossbow from magic logs, granting 70 Fletching experience.

But i noticed that a 2h crossbow does more damage than a shortbow (mithril 2h vs willow shortbow) (arrow damage remains the same). What situation would you prefer either weapon or at what point in the.. I have a +4 comp longbow and +5 comp shortbow. I have limited experience with bows and thought I would embarass myself with this question.
